Serious Game – Start

The basic idea for this game I will be developing is to be an educational experience set in the present with a theme based on non-aquatic lifeguard skills. I decided to do this concept due to an email reminding me of my soon-to-be expired lifeguard certifications, so I figured I’ve had experiences using these skills and thought they would be useful to make a game for lifeguards or even non-lifeguards to use.

This is the link to the padlet filled with the research for conditions I have done to refresh my memory and get the precise details for the game: https://artslondon.padlet.org/whobbs0120191/6ek6uuczz05s1kkn.

I will make a short version of the game, which will mean not all conditions and scenarios will be coded into the game, but could be worked on in the future if wanted. The plan is to use low poly models as using high detail would result in a lot more work and effort needed to make the scenarios that much more realistic, and wounds needing to be that much more detailed.

The full version of the game would include follow along tutorials to train for each condition and scenario a lifeguard might experience, with practice scenarios for the user to test their skills on their own. There would be instructions on the HUD in the tutorials to help the user follow along, especially if it’s their first time, and the practice scenarios will be scored according to a mixture of the time taken to treat the condition and how accurately the user treated the condition. This point system is intended to help the user get an idea of how much they’re improving, not as a competion.

Here are some images of other notes I have written down over time as potential ideas and ways for the game to function:
